Script: Lucian Freud was a British painter who specialized in figurative art. Born in Berlin, he was the grandson of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud. After emigrating to London after the rise of Nazism in 1933, Freud attended the Central School of Art in London, the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing in Dedham, and Goldsmith’s College before serving as a merchant seaman in an Atlantic Convoy from 1941 to 1942. In 1943, he was commissioned to illustrate a book of poems by Nicholas Moore called The Glass Tower, which led to his first solo exhibition in 1944. Freud’s early paintings were most influenced by Expressionism and Surrealism. His subjects were most often people, animals, and plants. He experimented with varying flesh tones as well as juxtapositions between his subjects and the background. In the 1950’s, he began to focus more on portraiture, paying most attention to texture and the color of flesh. Freud painted from life and most of his subjects were friends or family. Toward the end of his life, he mainly focused on nude paintings. His painting Benefits Supervisor Sleeping sold for $33.6 million in 2008, setting a world record auction price for a living artist.
Reflection: I enjoyed making this podcast because it was interesting learning more about the artist I chose. I'm still working on my technological literacy, so I struggled a bit with putting the images together and making everything look professional, but overall I am happy with how it turned out and can use the new skills I have gained in my own classroom.
Bitmoji Classroom:
Reflection: I had heard about Bitmoji classroom before this and was confused as to what it actually was and now I think it's a super cute way of making online learning a little more fun. I usually find making PowerPoints tedious, but I had a lot of fun making this and using my creativity to make it look nice. I think kids will like this since it's so interactive.
Group Lesson Plan:
Reflection: Although I was a little nervous to do a group project without being able to meet up in person, all my group members were very communicative and made working online easy. Although I knew what zines were before this, I was not too familiar with them and had not made one myself before but I found it to be a lot of fun and provides a lot of room for self expression. I would definitely use this lesson plan in my classroom, especially since I plan on teaching high school and expressing identity is so important to kids at that age.
Reflection; I chose a hamster for my animal for my 3D model because, as a kid, I had a hamster who had babies and my dad and brother helped me raise them, so for me they represent my family coming together. I also feel like I can relate to them because they're timid at first but they eventually open up. I found Tinkercad to be a hard program to use, but I am also pretty bad with technology, so that was to be expected. This was a lot more challenging than I anticipated, but I am happy with my end result. I think the website has its flaws, but it's also free doesn't require you to download any software, so I would recommend it to people starting out in 3D rendering and would use it in my classroom.
Animation:
Reflection: I had fun making this assignment and was surprised at how easy it was to put together and add audio on iMovie. If I were to redo the assignment I would give myself some more time because it was more time consuming than I anticipated, but I had a fun time and am satisfied with how it came out.
Reflection: I had a lot of fun making this quiz! I remember using Kahoot in high school and it was so fun and interactive and did add to my learning experience. I think it's helpful for students, especially when you add a visual aid to help them have a better grasp on the subject. I would definitely use a Kahoot quiz in my classroom since it encourages students to participate.
Video Tutorial
Reflection: At the beginning of this class, I would have dreaded having to speak in front of the camera and edit my video, but throughout the course of this class I have become a lot more comfortable with using technology, particularly iMovie. In the past, I have avoided making any type of video for my classes because I wasn't technologically inclined and didn't want to take the time to figure out the software, but this was actually fun and I am happy with the finished product! I think this will be useful in my classroom for projects that are difficult to show to the whole class in person.
